The Bakehouse

Make and Break Bread

Cottage baking and the Hearth & Homeostasis classes, to heal the world through hugs and baked goods.

Food has been a thread through my life: family recipes, restaurant kitchens, and the simple pleasure of making something to share.

The Village Fool Bakery and my Hearth & Homeostasis classes carry that thread forward. We slow down, work with our hands, and gather around something good. Bread, thankfully, has never asked us to multitask.

Michele, in this corner of the village

Food has been one of my ways of gathering people for decades—from founding Liquid Lunch and GROW to the loaves and treats of The Village Fool Bakery. During the pandemic, I created baking and teaching shows through Create with Michele as a way to share something useful and comforting. I’m a cottage baker, teacher, and keeper of family recipes, including Nora McCormick’s Irish brown bread passed down through my grandmother. In my Hearth & Homeostasis classes, we slow down, make something with our hands, and share the pleasure of it. As I wrote in one of my essays: ‘I do it all for the smells. Seriously.’
