The Commons
Community liaison, arts advocate, and a lifelong believer in the village.
My community work has taken many forms: arts education, Soupstock, local business, and serving as a Shelton Alderman. The belief underneath it hasn’t changed: everyone has a part in the village.
As a community liaison, I continue to bring people, businesses, and creative projects together. I listen, make connections, and help a shared idea find its footing. A good conversation is still one of my favorite places to start.
My grandmother, Mary A. Schmecker, taught ceramics in our community for decades. After her death, we honored her with arts scholarships, and my brother and I co-founded the Turtle Shell Fund to carry that care forward through arts education. I also created and ran the Soupstock Music & Arts Festival, bringing food, music, and artists together. I served as Shelton’s Ward 2 Alderman and ran for mayor in 2015. Those chapters share a thread with my life as a mother of six: everyone has something to offer, and everyone deserves to belong. Today, I continue that work as a community liaison, connecting people, local businesses, and creative projects around a shared table.
