. . . and I feel fine.

So December 21, 2012 is coming up. What are YOU gonna do when the world ends?
I kind of feel like this is going to be the catch phrase of the second half of the year—you know, when the Olympics are over and the back-to-school sales are done with. They gotta fill the airspace with something. Oh yeah, there’s always the election of our president, but who really cares about that, anyway? You can’t even text in your vote.
“How do you think it will end?” “How do you want to die?” “Asteroids, Aliens or Zombies?”
People all over the world have been talking about the 2012 prophecies. I’ve been watching lots of documentaries on the History Channel and Netflix and I now consider myself an expert. So apparently, it is on this date that the Ancient Mayans just stopped their calendar. Cold. Did it occur to anyone that their printer may have just run out of ink? Maybe the calendar guy had to let out his dog and got side-tracked. Whatever happened, tons of people today are freaking out about this date and are spending and making millions of dollars in order to prepare for the “End of Days”.
Well, I’ve been thinking lately about it and if you ask me, the world as we know it will not end in a big flash. I believe that the “Big Change” is already in progress, but we are just too miniscule and self-absorbed to recognize it. For the past 200 years, technology and scientific advancement have been careening out of control to the point that we are growing human ears on the backs of mice. We have finally discovered a particle soooo small that it took weeks of sifting though data to even find its shadow. And this teeny tiny speck explains the existence of our entire universe. I am not making this shit up people, google it. This is in the last 200 years!!!
Think about how slowly things progressed before then—people would wait for weeks—nay—months to receive word from Zio Tony in Palermo that the Pope came to visit. Now, we can simply skype with good ol’ Zio and its just like we were there. Missed it? No problem! Look it up on Youtube and choose from 716,495 entries with “pope” and “palermo” in the search criteria.
I believe that time, much like the Mayans model, is like a spiral. We (mankind) have been traveling in circles, kind of like the penny that you put in that cool cone-shaped thingie in Wal-mart for childhood cancer. We have been accelerating slowly, then faster and faster, until we get to the bottom part of the cone where we spin so fast, we can barely keep up—and then? Plunk! The penny is gone, on to a higher purpose (we hope) serving children in need.
If what they are predicting is true, are we really going to simply cease to exist? All of the quantum physicists in the room say no! Energy can neither be created nor destroyed—only changed. In my perfect world, the big change will not mean lots of death and destruction like some believe. I believe it will be on more of a consciousness or energetic level. I like to think that whatever happens at the end of the year (world) will make the human brain kick-start itself into using some of the 90% free storage space it has and friggin’ evolve already! A girl can dream, can’t she?
Maybe we will move on to serve a higher purpose. Maybe we won’t. Maybe we will turn into zombies and eat our dogs. Maybe we won’t. And maybe the sun will rise on December 22, 2012 and there will be a bunch of people who will have to find a new career.
